A Lot of Learning Left
So what I learned about shooting weddings: you sweat your ass off running all over the place to try to get the shot, not wanting to miss a second. It was another great learning experience and really reinforced that I have a lot more learning to do. I walked away with a lot more usable shots that the first wedding so we'll consider it a win. And I know the clients considered it a win too, so that's all that matters. This is one of my favorite shots from this time around.

Learning the family cabbage roll recipe. Syx's aunt Janice, cousin Tania and my mother in law. A great group of ladies to spend the afternoon rolling cabbage with. We rolled hundreds for our Ontario wedding reception.
Photo by Syx. Edited by me. More lessons in Lightroom with my husband on a lazy sort of afternoon.

When you have a toddler, every trip out becomes an ordeal. You pack diapers, snacks, and you have to make sure you have a sippy cup and you have to make sure you bring something to keep them entertained. We have a really big camera and sometimes it's a really big hassle to lug it out every time. I often find myself thankful for my iphone - it actually takes decent photos and I even have a photoshop app!

Another fail, so here's another portrait by someone else. This amazing family portrait was taken by Joe McNally while he was in town teaching a workshop for VPW. So brilliantly beautiful. It was such an honor to have him shoot us.

I totally failed today, so instead here's an illustration my amazingly talented friend Phanie made of us as Pandas. I'm going to use it in the header of my other blog.

Back to work. This is my whiteboard. By my whiteboard, I mean MY whiteboard. You should've seen the mess of it before I took over and made it so beautiful and neat. I'm a little OCD in case you hadn't noticed.
I stepped up the iphone photos a bit and downloaded Hipstamatic - John S lens and Kodot XGrizzled film.

Okay, so I totally failed on Day 63. I'm honestly surprised that I made it this long before I slipped up. BUT even though this shot was taken with my iphone I opened up Photoshop for the first time and was coached through using an adjustment layer for black&white and curves. I even used a s curve for contrast. WHOoooOOOoooOOoo.

SNOW DAY!! It was really hard to take a picture of myself because of the lens I was using so here's one of Hanna and Syx. The snow threw my exposure off and made everything too dark so I had to use the exposure compensation tool to compensate. Apparently your camera wants to make everything 18% gray. Who knew? Another good lesson. I really need to focus on my focus. It bums me out when it's just a BIT off in an otherwise pretty good shot!

Portrait of a mole - Pt 2. The chin mole. This mole is the bane of my existence and I seriously don't know why I haven't had it chopped off already.
So far the only photo editing I've done is cropping in Lightroom. On this file though I actually played with some of the contrast and brightness. Not very exciting but now that I'm getting comfortable navigating Lightroom I'm starting to explore all different things it can do. It's a step in the right direction!

We had the pleasure of having a family portrait taken by Joe Mcnally today. This is a lighting test that I loved.

not really 53/365 but.....
Joe McNally demo at the Planetarium. Amazing photographer, absolutely inspiring. Need to learn flash. Need to learn studio lighting. He has the best stories about lighting the most interesting things and scenarios and has this way of making the most complicated set ups make perfect sense. Check out his blog. He's in town right now doing a workshop with VPW and Syx is out tonight (and has been all day) assisting him with a shoot.
It's hard to believe that the last time he was in town I was just pregnant with Hanna P. He took this beautiful portrait of the 'three' of us as a demo during his workshop last time around.
