....and we're back on track. HP went down to bed, Syx is at school so I decided to break out the sparklers and glow sticks and try light painting, which I have never tried on my own. It took a bit of trial and error with materials and exposure time- I found the glow sticks didn't give off enough light in this setting, but I suspect they would be great in a darker setting. This was using a sparkler and I'm at ISO 100, f9, with a 6 second exposure, no edits
I've been having a hard time keeping up with the 365 project between working, participating (trying to) in a writing class and planning an up and coming toddler art class at the Mt. Pleasant Community center. So here's to pressing forward and not obsessing over the missed days, like I would normally do. So here's what I do have, there are gaps in days and I'm not sure that they're all in order - expect to see me back tomorrow with day 130.
121/365 a rare afternoon off together these days. the cloud broke just long enough for us to go play.
122/365 i'm smiling because Hanna is napping.
123/365 i'm kinda obsessed with my hair. my hair has never been this long in my life.
Alex Stoddard is 17, and had never used his camera outside of it's auto settings before he started the 365 project. His work is completely inspiring and thought provoking. If he's producing these types of images at 17, I can't even begin to imagine what he'll be shooting in 10 years.
Anyhow. He also uses flickr like a lot of my peers seem to be- plus I just downloaded Lightroom 3.3 which has an option to directly upload to flickr- so I jumped on the bandwagon - I'll probably be uploading some images in the next few days and checking things out.
As you can see, I've done a whole lot of back-posting. It's been a crazy couple weeks back in Vancouver. We've all been under the weather with a few different seasonal goodies despite our desperate attempts to avoid them. Point being, I got a bit behind on a few things but am really trying to start the New Year off positively! Now that we're all on the mend it's time to clean house and start some projects.
Over the holidays I had the chance to help Syx shoot a wedding for an old friend of his. What an amazing experience, both photographically and personally. There's a great energy in a room filled with that much love. And on the photographic side, Syx took some rad creative shots and go real creative with lighting and it was nice to be able to observe and learn.
I can actually feel myself slowly becoming a photo geek. All of a sudden my eyes aren't glazing over when the boys are talking gear or lightroom.
We stayed in Niagara Falls after for a few nights and got a chance to hang out with our friends Holly and Eric which also turned into a great impromptu lesson. Syx ended up shooting Eric in his attic workspace and I helped! We got creative, and the shots turned out great!
I'm hoping all these lessons help fuel my own creativity this year. I really feel like I have this itch I need to scratch.
